And they have found a way to bridge a gap between their Pagan practices and those which many of them had long held a negative attitude toward. They were (and still are) Pagans of various stripes who have stumbled into more Christian based folk magic because so much of it is so simple in terms of materia and preparation, and yet so decidedly effective. ![]() I have some friends who came at it from the other side. I commune with Christ at mass and in my home, but also with Hermes and Hecate, and even with goetic demons. I now have a saints altars, ancestor altars, and my various pagan altars in different corners of my magic room in my house. When I discovered Psalm magic, Saint work, Cyprianic work, and things like Southern Conjure, it really added a whole new dimension to my practice that connected my religious and occult lives in a more holistic way. I had been practicing from the rites of Hermetic lodges, the PGM, the medieval grimoires, Franz Bardon, and Agrippa's Three Books. But it never seemed to pose much of a challenge to the central position Christ played in my spiritual and religious life.Īnd honestly until around 5 years ago, I hadn't even known about the rich traditions of Christian folk magic. I found the reality of the gods, and the efficacy of magical practice expanded and augmented my worldview quite a bit. And I didn't stop being one when I got into the occult 15 years ago. But, here in the US, I've encountered some folks over the years who have had some difficulty reconciling the popularity and also the undeniable potency of this sort of spell work.
